Anusol

Anusol is another reputable brand within the piles treatment market.  They offer 5 main treatments which are cream, ointment, suppositories, Anusol plus HC ointment and Anusol plus HC suppositories.  Anusol offer their standard treatments and their Plus range which include Hydrocortisone.  Products with Hydrocortisone may not be suitable for everyone as it is a steroid.  Hydrocortisone should not be used on children, or if you are pregnant or breast feeding.  Hydrocortisone products should not be taken for more than about a week, as they can cause skin problems.  A week should be long enough for Hydrocortisone products to work.  Anusol’s treatments help reduce the discomfort along with soothing the suffering area.

On this page I will be giving information on each of the different treatments available and the advantages of all of them.

Anusol Cream

One of the  more popular treatments for piles is using a cream.  It’s simple to apply and isn’t too thick.  This can be a complaint regarding the ointment as some people find it difficult to apply.  To use the cream you apply it at night and in the morning (after a bowel movement) and you do not need to cover it with a dressing or anything similar.  The cream comes with a nozzle so you can apply it internally.

Anusol Ointment

The ointment is similar to the cream, other than it does require a dressing.  It will be a bit thicker than the cream and it should be applied at night and in the morning after a bowel movement.  This product is not recommended for treating children.  You should consult with a doctor when treating a child’s piles.

The ointment will help reduce internal and external piles.

Anusol Suppositories

Suppositories may not be that appealing to everyone, but they offer a more even treatment.  Not only do they help calm the affected areas, but they improve hygiene.  Anusol’s suppositories are gently pushed into the anus, after each bowel movement at night.

Anusol’s suppositories can be used along side their other treatments and are easy to use.  They are not a messy treatment!

Anusol Plus HC Ointment

The HC ointment is a light brown colour and is to be used to treat haemorrhoids, or piles, internally and on the outside of your body.

To use you should wash the area with the piles and apply them in the evening and morning  after every bowel movement.  You should not apply it more than 4 times in a 24 hour period and you should not use this treatment for over a week!

Anusol Plus HC Suppositories

These are similar to the standard range of Anusol suppositories, but they contain the steroid Hydrocortisone.  This can speed up the treatment of piles.  Use should be limited, as Hydrocortisone is not something you want to use over a long period of time.

Anusol’s Plus HC suppositories are suitable for adults.  They come in an olive green colour and should be pushed into the bottom after every bowel movement during the evening and morning.  You should not use more than 3 of these within a day and not use HC suppositories for over 7 days.  If you are treating a child with piles please speak to your doctor first.
